What is Pacific Drive?

Pacific Drive immerses players in a post-apocalyptic driving survival adventure set in the Olympic Exclusion Zone. A self-contained area filled with anomalies and supernatural phenomena. Ghostly apparitions roam freely under the ominous cover of the Zone Storm, creating an environment rife with calamities. Players embark on expeditions into the heart of the Olympic Exclusion Zone in their trusty station wagon. The goal is not only to document the oddities of the Pacific Northwest. But also to confront the elements and anomalies in a last-ditch effort to make it through to the other side.

Described as a road-lite experience, the game combines driving simulation with survival elements. Players make a disused garage their base of operations. You regularly perform repairs and upgrades to the station wagon here.The Zone’s layout changes with each expedition, ensuring a fresh and unpredictable experience. As you upgrade the vehicle, it develops a unique personality. It is mirroring the mysterious nature of the Olympic Exclusion Zone.

Set in a sci-fi Pacific Northwest, the game’s backstory was detailed by Ironwood’s communications and marketing specialist, Blake Dove. He revealed that in the 1950s, the US government took control of the region for experimental purposes. The area became irradiated and teeming with supernatural horrors. Thus prompting the government to close it to the public and rename it the Olympic Exclusion Zone. Players assume the role of an unnamed protagonist. Your curiosity leads you to venture into the Exclusion Zone, only to get stuck inside. The primary objective is to escape the Zone and unravel its many secrets.

Road-Lite Gameplay

Blake Dove’s insights into the gameplay describe Pacific Drive as a “road-lite,”. Which is a play on the term “roguelite.” The auto shop serves as the player’s home base for repairs and upgrades to the station wagon. These upgrades are crucial for venturing deeper into the Zone. By solving its mysteries to find a way out. Continual exploration allows players to gather valuable resources, fortifying the car’s defenses and improving the garage. The ever-changing layout of the Zone, influenced by a “passing storm,” ensures that each departure from the auto shop feels fresh. The survival aspect is evident in many aspects. Such as the need to gather resources, document trips, and face various challenges. These include bizarre weather, unforgiving landscapes, and experimental remnants. The golden rule in the Zone is: “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”

Story of Pacific Drive

The heart of Pacific Drive lies in the anomaly-strewn Olympic Exclusion Zone. A once-thriving area that became the subject of “experimental” research by a top-secret organization. Now abandoned and consumed by its own creations, the Zone stands with fragments scattered between sections. Players embark embark on a journey to uncover the vast mysteries left by the secretive ARDA organization.

The experimental leftovers of ARDA remain scattered across the Zone, presenting challenges in the form of anomalies. Surreal forces of a twisted nature. Each run is packed with otherworldly hazards. From silhouettes in the dark to rolling piles of scrap metal and towering pillars of earth. However, nothing compares to the overwhelming power of a Zone Storm. A rolling maelstrom that rends the landscape and obliterates anything that lingers too long. Players must navigate these hazards, outrun Zone Storms. And avoid becoming victims of the calamities that define the Olympic Exclusion Zone.
